SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 1:23-25
23 You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.” That word is the good news that was announced to you.
When we claim the Christian faith and embrace God’s love and grace, we are “born again” in that love and grace. Jesus’ sacrifice is more about our salvation for eternity than saving us in this life. But that does not mean that our time in this life is meaningless or without purpose. The second part of verse twenty-five reminds us “That word is the good news that was announced to you” and we are called by Jesus to go and make disciples. We are now born anew, and we must now go and share the Good News so that others may also be born anew.
In what other ways have you seen the Good News have an impact on your life? Can you point to a specific period in your life when you felt “born anew,” or has it been a continuous change every day?
God of eternity, we thank you for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that offers all the world your prevenient grace. As we are born anew in Christ and your love, help us to share the Good News with others that they may come to be born again. And strengthen us for the journey ahead until we reach that time that you call us home to you to eternal life in your love and grace. Amen.
