Pastor’s Reflections – July/August 2019

Hello Centreville United Methodist Church! As you probably already know, my name is Pastor Michael and I am very excited to be joining with you in the ministry work that God calls us to. Over the coming weeks, I hope we will get to know each other through our time together in worship, meetings, meals, and general fellowship. One thing that I hope you will come to find about me is that I love people. I love to listen to people, talk with people, be with people. And I am looking forward to doing all of that with all of you over the coming weeks and months and years. I really want to get to know you, your history, your hopes and dreams, your stories. Being a pastor is one of the best things about my life and I am so thankful for all the opportunities it allows me to get to know the people around me.

Now, I am not your first new pastor. I know that you have been through several pastoral transitions in a very short time, and I know that many of you have been members here for many years. New pastors often mean that some things may change, some may stay the same, some may go away, and new things may come. Change can be a difficult and scary thing. And that’s normal. As humans we tend to not really like change, we don’t like the idea that we are not in full control. But I want to promise you right from the beginning that my goal, my desire for this congregation is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. I want to walk along with all of you in this amazing journey we call faith, share the Good News of Jesus Christ, and be living reflections of God’s love to the world.

I also want to use this space for this month’s newsletter to say thank you. From the very beginning of this journey that my family and I have taken, we have felt loved and supported by this faith community. I know you have kept us in your prayers, and we have felt that. Sarah and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, and care you have shown us. And our boys have loved getting to meet many of you and play in their new backyard. The parsonage is a wonderful space that we are making our home as we continue to unpack and move things around. On behalf of my family, I want to say thank you and we are so excited to be here with you!

God’s blessings,

Pastor Michael
